Chapel History

In the early 1900's, the owner of the property where the chapel exists lived on the lot to the north and learned that someone wanted to build a saloon on the property.  He did not want a saloon next to him, so he donated the land to the Methodist Church.  A vernacular style church with references to the gothic revival style was built, and on June 23, 1907, the church was dedicated as the Methodist Church of Boring, Or.  It was one of two vernacular churches built during the progressive Era (1884-1913) in the Sandy-Boring area.

In the 1940's-1950's the church added on a shed roof wing to the north which housed the fellowship hall and basement.  In early 2000, the Methodist Church abandoned the property where it sat vacant for 4 yrs.  The Millers then purchased the church, leveled the grounds, adding a new septic system and new roof.

Owner Info

The Connolly's purchased the historic church in 2006 and finished the renovation, creating the Bell Tower Chapel.
Improvements included finishing the basement and adding a bridal suite w/bathroom, a kitchenette, outdoor stairway access from basement to chapel entry, heating and air conditioning, along with extensive landscape improvements, inground sprinkler system, parking areas, fencing, and more.  In 2008 the massive 100yr. old maple tree was dedicated as a "Heritage Tree".

Family-operated with owner's sister, Debbie, providing tours and officiating service, and brother, Rick helping to maintain the building and grounds.  The chapel has provided a beautiful venue to over 60 wedding and event rentals per year since established in 2006!

Despite alterations, the church is significant for its historic role in the community!
